Harman/Kardon GLA-55
Merging the beauty of fine cut crystal sculpture with superior sound. Like a diamond, GLA-55 is the highest expression of premium in any multimedia speaker system.
Vision
Walking through the streets of Venice Italy, you are engulfed in the glistening light reflect from the facets of glass artifacts made by master craftsmen. The inspiration for creating an “audio sculpture” was born.
Branding
The strategy was to enhance Harman/Kardon’s brand of audio technology by merging superior sound with the beauty and precision of fine cut crystal. Emphasizing the perfect balance between “sight & sound” created in a thoughtful provocative manner.
Design
The challenge was to take the precise acoustic chamber and create the appearance of a solid gem. Lapidary techniques were used to design the facets that refracted the light within the transparent material. Just as precious gems have unique crystalline internal structures and beautiful external crafted facets, so mirrors GLA-55. Utilizing high tech internal componentry, crystal clear material with concave facets and metal accents entice the consumer to view the system as a piece of custom jewelry. Creating a premium expression while maintaining responsible manufacturing costs.
User Experience
Because the system has built in sound equalization, the desired goal was to develop an interface that offered complete volume and mute control. Two touch sensor buttons were strategically placed on the baffle that is both easy to use as well as complimenting the overall aesthetic.
Manufacturing
There was an emphasis on creating a premium product. With innovative part break up, material usage, assembly methods and standard manufacturing processes, high quality and affordability was achieved.
Production
Special interlocking housing and special designed components assures ease of assembly for high volume consistency, better rigidity for sound output and to maintain overall profitability.
